Top Green Builders: Bay Area

by brook

Common sense dictates that the Bay Area is likely to offer more green home builders than many other regions. And while not all San Francisco-based builders have completed the total green transition, it appears that most firms are taking baby steps toward the process. Case in point? SummerHill Homes, a builder of distinctive communities in superior settings throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley since 1976, has recently launched their Green Task Force. This internal think-tank is now innovating new green building practices and technologies for the company, and implementing them in many new SummerHill communities. Additionally, the group provides on-going education and research on green construction materials and techniques – all while working with industry experts who share the SummerHill Green Task Force’s commitment to green building practices.

Greem Home Builders

Consumers may not realize that green building objectives are hard for a home builder to achieve on their own. Many companies partner with other initiatives to meet their goals; and SummerHill is no exception. They’ve partnered with Build It Green®, a California non-profit that has written the green building standards which are rapidly being adopted by city governments throughout the entire state. Build It Green® has developed the Green Point Rated® program, an objective home rating system based on energy efficiency, resource conservation, indoor air quality, water conservation and community development in the Golden State. And, because green building certification is one important way to demonstrate commitment to the cause, SummerHill has voluntarily undergone Build It Green’s® GreenPoint Rated® certification on many of its current communities.

Examples of SummerHill green communities include Fremont Homes and Redwood Gate. Take a look at these masterfully designed communities and their homesites to see just how beautiful a sustainable green home can be!
