San Bernardino is the seat of San Bernardino County just east of Los Angeles, between Barstow and Riverside. It lies along Interstate 15 near the Angeles National Forest and the San Bernardino Mountains. Locals call the surrounding region the Inland Empire.
The San Bernardino Valley has a very temperate climate. Temperatures range from the 30s to the 60s in January and from the 50s to high 90s in July. Nearly 15 inches of rain falls annually mostly from December to February. These conditions make the weather, on average, great for year-round outdoor activity.
Originally the Inland Empire was created by the joining of many rural communities. The resulting attitude was one which is more "laid back" than those of the adjoining metropolitan areas. As a result people are friendlier and more approachable than their "big city" counterparts. You'll find it all here: from a sunrise flight in a hot-air balloon to a hike along the Pacific Crest Tail; from a quiet ride in a horse-drawn carriage to parachuting from a plane.
You can water ski on a quiet lake in the morning and skim down snowy ski runs in the afternoon. The sun-kissed Inland Empire gets it all--great weather, tourist attractions, year-round recreation and prize-winning wines. Adventure is always in season here.
