The city of Memphis is located in southwestern Tennessee and sits on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. It is the regional hub for a tri-state area of Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Interstate 40 (I-40) enters the city from the northeast, and loops above the central part of the city, exiting across the Mississippi River and travelling to the west. Overton Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country, is located in the heart of Midtown and is home to the Memphis Zoo, Memphis College of Art, Brooks Museum of Art and the Overton Park Shell. Several colleges and universities, including the University of Memphis and Rhodes College, add greatly to the area’s eclectic ambiance.
